Hello, and thanks to the Deadly Vixens for having me today! My name is Bree, and I’m one half of the romance-writing, virtual-crime-fighting duo known as Moira Rogers. Together with my best friend Donna, I have the delightful honor of writing books about things that go bump (and sometimes grind) in the night.
And today is the most exciting day I’ve had since I started my writing career, because it’s the day the first book we ever wrote goes on sale at Samhain Publishing. Crux is the book that started it all for us, the story that captured our minds so much we decided we just had to write it. Somewhere in the middle of writing it we decided to take a break and try our hands at short stories to see what we could learn, but in the end it always came back to Crux. Because man, we loved this book.
Luckily for us, so did our editor! It’s a complex book with a twisty plot, good guys who might be bad guys, bad guys who might be good guys and a romance that is the tiniest bit forbidden. It also has a cast of characters who we love dearly, each one with their own strengths and weaknesses they bring to the table. The Southern Arcana universe is our second home, and we’ve been vacationing there for so long that it’s hard to believe we finally get to share it with the world!
At its heart, Crux is the story of a woman who has never quite fit in anywhere. Mackenzie Brooks has always felt a little out of touch with the world around her, even though the parents who adopted her when she was five have done everything in their power to make her feel loved. It isn’t until a stalker-gone-bad chases her to New Orleans that she discovers a place that feels right. Something about the people who hang around Mahalia’s Bar & Grill resonate with her, but the truth is something she isn’t ready to face: there’s a world beyond the one she knows, and she belongs to it.
